Chair Design Project
A project focused on the re-design and re-purposing of a folding chair
In this group project, we first focused on the redesign of a folding chair using different materials and production processes.
In the second part, we focused on applying the same mechanism to a selected target market - in this case; Afghan refugees in need of lightweight furniture.
Shown are three redesigns of an existing chair, and the final design concept in software and physical form.
It was important for us to consider details that aid in manufacturability. This also helped when creating a physical, full scale model.
We were once again reminded of the value in creating physical prototypes and models. Often, an intuitive sense of shape + size cannot be gained from a CAD model alone, and mistakes are far easier identified when you can hold the design in your own two hands.
As goes for anywhere on my website, all models, designs and images are created by myself.
